Our dedicated team of skilled Reiki practitioners combines ancient healing techniques with modern approaches to provide a nurturing and rejuvenating experience.
Reiki is a Japanese healing technique that channels universal life force energy to promote physical, emotional, and spiritual healing. It is a gentle and non-invasive therapy that works to restore harmony within the body, mind, and spirit. By addressing imbalances in the energy flow, Reiki helps to release stress, reduce pain, and encourage a sense of deep relaxation and inner peace.
We take a comprehensive approach to Reiki therapy, ensuring that each session is tailored to meet your specific needs and goals. Our practitioners are highly trained and certified in various Reiki techniques, allowing them to provide a personalised experience that addresses your unique concerns.
During a Reiki Therapy session, you will be comfortably seated or lying down, fully clothed. Our skilled practitioners will gently place their hands on or near specific areas of your body, allowing the healing energy to flow through their hands and into your body. This energy promotes the restoration of balance and the release of any blockages, fostering a state of deep relaxation and facilitating your body's natural healing abilities.
Reiki is a form of alternative therapy often referred to as energy healing and is said to involve the transfer of universal energy from the practitioner's palms to their patient. The word "Reiki" comes from the Japanese words "rei" (meaning "universal") and "ki" (meaning "life energy"). Reiki is based on the idea that an unseen "life force energy" flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one's "life force energy" is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy. In a Reiki session, the practitioner places their hands either directly on you or just above you to bring about healing. The belief is that the practitioner is able to stimulate your body's natural healing abilities.
Reiki is believed to have originated in Japan in the late 19th or early 20th century. It was developed by Mikao Usui, who was a Buddhist scholar and teacher. The term "Reiki" is derived from two Japanese words: "rei," which translates roughly as "divine" or "universal," and "ki," which means "life energy."According to the tradition, Mikao Usui experienced a spiritual awakening during a meditation retreat on Mount Kurama near Kyoto, Japan. This led him to develop the system of healing that he later named "Reiki." He began practicing and teaching this system of healing in Japan, and it eventually spread to the Western world. While Reiki has its roots in Usui's teachings, it has since evolved into various forms and practices. Today, it's commonly practiced in many countries around the world, and is used as a form of complementary therapy in conjunction with conventional medical treatments.
During a Reiki session, you usually lie down on a massage table fully clothed. Sessions can also be performed with the patient sitting comfortably in a chair. It typically involves the practitioner placing their hands lightly on or just above your body in a series of locations, but there is no pressure applied like in massage therapy.
Here's a typical outline for a Reiki session:
Preparation: The Reiki practitioner will first explain the process to you, answer any questions you may have, and help you feel comfortable. The environment is often peaceful, with dimmed lights and relaxing music to enhance the calming effect.
Reiki Practice: The practitioner will then place their hands lightly on or near your body, usually starting at your head and working their way down to your feet. The specific hand positions can vary, but each position is held for several minutes. The belief is that the practitioner's hands are conduits for the Reiki energy, which they direct into the client to facilitate healing and balance.
Transfer of Energy: The practitioner is thought to channel energy into the patient in order to restore or balance the body's energy fields. Some people report feeling warmth or tingling sensations from the practitioner's hands.
Closure: Once the Reiki session is complete, the practitioner will usually allow you to rest for a few minutes to adjust before slowly sitting up. They may ask about your experiences during the session and provide space for you to share any thoughts or feelings that came up.
Post-session Guidance: The practitioner may offer guidance for self-care after the session, such as drinking plenty of water to help your body flush out any released toxins.
Each Reiki session typically lasts between 60 to 90 minutes, although the length can vary based on the practitioner's assessment of the client's needs. It's important to note that individual experiences with Reiki can vary widely. Some people report feeling relaxed and revitalized after a session, while others may not notice any immediate effects. As with any complementary therapy, it's important to discuss with your healthcare provider before starting Reiki or any other new treatment regimen.
Yes, Reiki can be used on animals. Many Reiki practitioners offer services for pets and other animals, and some animal shelters and veterinary clinics also use Reiki as a complementary therapy.
Animals, like humans, are believed to have a life force energy that flows through them, and Reiki aims to help balance this energy. Proponents of animal Reiki suggest that it can help reduce stress and anxiety, support healing from injury or illness, and provide comfort to animals who are aging or nearing the end of life.
An animal Reiki session usually involves the practitioner placing their hands lightly on the animal or holding their hands a few inches from the animal's body, similar to how Reiki is performed on humans. However, the approach can be modified depending on the animal's comfort and behavior. For example, some animals may not feel comfortable being touched by a stranger, so a hands-off or distant approach might be used.
Reiki is one form of energy healing, but there are many different types, each with their own unique methods and philosophies.
Here are a few ways in which Reiki may be different from other forms of energy healing:
Usui Method: Reiki originated from the teachings of Mikao Usui in Japan in the late 19th century. The Usui method involves a specific set of practices and principles that may be different from other energy healing modalities.
Hands-On or Hands-Off: Unlike some forms of energy healing that are strictly hands-off, Reiki can be done with a light touch or without any physical contact. The practitioner channels the healing energy and directs it to the recipient using specific hand positions.
Attunement Process: In Reiki, there's an initiation process called an "attunement," where a Reiki master opens up the student's capacity to channel Reiki energy. This is unique to Reiki and is not found in many other forms of energy healing.
Reiki Principles and Symbols: Reiki also incorporates specific symbols and principles that are used to facilitate the healing process. These symbols, which are revealed to Reiki practitioners during their training, represent specific aspects of the healing energy and are thought to enhance the practitioner's ability to connect with the life force energy.
Self-Healing: Reiki emphasises self-healing and self-care, as well as healing others. Reiki practitioners are trained to use Reiki for their own healing, and daily self-treatments are an integral part of the Reiki practice.
Remember, everyone's experience with energy healing can vary, and what works best will depend on the individual's personal preferences, beliefs, and needs. It's also important to consult with a healthcare provider when considering any new form of therapy.
Reiki is generally considered to be a safe practice and is usually well-tolerated. Since it is non-invasive and does not involve any substances or manipulations, the risk of side effects is extremely low. However, some people may experience certain reactions during or after a Reiki session.
Detoxification symptoms: Some people might experience what is commonly referred to as a "healing crisis" after a Reiki session. This can include symptoms such as headache, fatigue, or feeling emotionally upset, and is thought to be related to the body's process of releasing stored tension or toxins.
Emotional release: Because Reiki can bring up emotions or memories, some individuals might feel emotional or even cry during or after the session. This is often considered part of the healing process.
Temporary discomfort: Some individuals might feel more aware of their symptoms or discomfort after a Reiki session, which can be mistaken as an increase in symptoms. This usually passes quickly as the body continues to process the healing energy.
Relaxation or drowsiness: Reiki can induce a state of deep relaxation, and some people may feel a bit drowsy after a session. This is generally not a problem but could be an issue if you need to drive or perform other activities immediately afterward.
Yes, Reiki can be performed remotely. This practice is often referred to as "distant" or "absent" Reiki. The idea behind this method is that the practitioner uses intention and specific symbols that were introduced during their Reiki training to connect with and send energy to the person receiving the treatment, regardless of physical distance.
Many practitioners and recipients report that distant Reiki sessions can be just as effective as in-person sessions. It is believed in the Reiki community that energy can be guided and directed across any distance because it is not confined by the usual limitations of time and space.
That said, the experience of receiving Reiki can be different for everyone. Some people might prefer in-person sessions because they enjoy the physical presence of the practitioner and find the touch aspect of the practice soothing. Others might find distant Reiki more convenient or comfortable, especially if they are unable to leave their homes due to illness or other reasons.
As with all types of complementary therapies, it's important to choose a method that feels right for you and aligns with your personal comfort levels and preferences.
Reiki therapy offers a wide range of benefits for individuals seeking physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being.
Reiki helps to release tension and promotes relaxation, helping you to manage stress more effectively. By addressing energy imbalances, Reiki can help alleviate pain and discomfort, supporting your body's natural healing processes. Reiki works on an energetic level to release emotional blockages and promote emotional well-being, helping you to find greater balance and clarity. Reiki therapy can enhance your overall sense of well-being by promoting a harmonious flow of energy throughout your body and can deepen your connection to your inner self and higher consciousness, fostering spiritual growth and self-awareness.
