Mid-January Check-In: How to Reignite Your Energy and Stay on Track

January 13, 20254 min read

Introduction

We’re almost halfway through January, and let’s be honest – this is the time when the New Year sparkle can start to fade. The excitement of fresh beginnings may be giving way to the weight of routines, and those resolutions or intentions you set might feel a little harder to stick to.

But don’t worry – this is totally normal! The mid-January slump happens to all of us. The key isn’t to push through with sheer willpower; it’s to pause, reassess, and realign. Let’s dive into how you can recharge and keep moving forward without burning out.

1. Reflect on Your Progress

Take a moment to look back at the first two weeks of January. What’s been working well? Where have you faced challenges?

Ask yourself:

  • Did I stick to the habits I wanted to build?

  • How have my actions aligned with the intentions I set for the year?

  • What felt good, and what felt forced?

Reflection isn’t about beating yourself up for 'failures' – it’s about celebrating wins (no matter how small) and learning what adjustments might be needed.

2. Reset Your Focus

If your original goals or habits feel overwhelming, it’s okay to scale back or adjust. Goals aren’t set in stone – they’re a guide to help you move forward.

Instead of focusing on everything, pick one or two areas to prioritize this week. For example:

  • If you’ve been struggling to stick to a workout routine, commit to just two sessions this week.

  • If healthy eating has felt like a chore, focus on prepping one nutritious meal a day instead of overhauling every meal.

Small, sustainable actions are far more effective than trying to do too much at once.

3. Reignite Your Motivation

Feeling stuck? It might be time to remind yourself why you started in the first place.

Here are a few ways to rekindle your motivation:

  • Visualise your "why": Close your eyes and imagine, fell, sense or know how your life will feel when you’ve achieved what you’re working toward.

  • Revisit your intentions: Focus on the feelings you want to cultivate this year – like balance, energy, or confidence.

  • Incorporate rewards: Treat yourself for sticking to a habit or making progress, whether it’s with a relaxing bath, a favourite snack, or a little extra downtime.

4. Simplify Your Routine

If you’re feeling overwhelmed, it could be because your routine is too complicated. Simplify where you can to reduce decision fatigue and make healthy choices easier.

Try these tips:

  • Prep meals or snacks ahead of time to avoid scrambling during busy days.

  • Lay out workout clothes the night before to make morning exercise a no-brainer.

  • Schedule self-care activities like journaling or stretching into your calendar so they don’t get overlooked.

The less energy you spend deciding what to do, the more energy you’ll have for actually doing it.

5. Connect with Others

Sometimes, all you need is a little support to get back on track. Share your progress with a friend, join an accountability group, or talk with someone who inspires you.

Feeling connected to others reminds you that you’re not alone and can provide fresh ideas or encouragement when you need it most.

6. Celebrate Your Wins

It’s easy to focus on what hasn’t gone well, but don’t forget to celebrate the progress you’ve made – no matter how small.

Did you drink more water this week? Celebrate it.
Did you skip a workout but still go for a walk? Celebrate it.
Did you take one step closer to your goals? Celebrate it.

Celebrating your wins keeps you motivated and reinforces the habits you’re building.

7. Practice Gratitude

Gratitude is a powerful tool for shifting your mindset and boosting your energy. Spend a few minutes each day reflecting on the good in your life – the people, experiences, or even small moments that bring you joy.

Write them down, say them out loud, or share them with someone you care about. Gratitude helps you focus on the positive, even during challenging times.

Final Thoughts: Keep Moving Forward

Mid-January isn’t the time to give up – it’s the perfect time to pause, reflect, and reset. You don’t need to have everything figured out right now. The important thing is to keep showing up for yourself, one step at a time.

Remember, progress isn’t always linear, and it’s okay to adjust your approach as you go. Take this week as an opportunity to realign with your intentions and reignite your energy.

You’ve got this. Let’s finish January strong!
